    An Excellent movie.

I'm writing this on July 5, 1998. Last viewing: at least 1 year ago

Another unlikely choice, at first glance. The Red Pig? What's up with that? A weird man/pig who flies an airplane? Stupid! Or is it?

When Dan described this one, before showing it, I really couldn't see myself enjoying it. I like humorous ones well enough, I like serious ones, but this? Then I watched it. First the humor and strength shown by the characters got me reasonably interested. Then it had some interesting twists and turns in the plot. Then some truly touching, sensitive moments with stunning animation. A very lovely, compact story. I know how hard it can be to tell a complete tale in a limited time, and this one pulls it off wonderfully.

I'd never really thought of myself as a big fan of flying: after all, I get airsick. But this animation just pulled it into the realm of dreams, of wonderful fantasy, that could completely absorb you. And the whole WWI style of aircraft really was elegant.

A compact, complete story with stunning animation and a healthy dose of humor. Certainly worth seeing. Just make sure you get over the fact that he's a pig.

This is fantasy, and a good one.
