Not bad, but not really good, either.

I'm writing this on September 21, 1999. Last viewing: 1 day ago

I taped this from the Independant Film Channel, and left the tape on the shelf for a very long time. I watched it the day after watching M.D. Geist (which I ranked at a 10 out of 100), so I was not hopeful. I was pleasantly surprised.

It started off with a rather poorly-animated bit of violence, reminiscent of the beginning of M.D. Geist in some ways. Then it went to its relatively dull intro music. Then, suddenly, we were watching a very unremarkable office scene, with typical office chatter, and some bullying. I like shows that take sharp turns like that.

It's an interesting idea: some people on Earth have the job of carrying out justice for the dead. In this case, the guy has your typical-superhero-mild-mannered alter-ego going for him. You can almost get into a few of the characters. And of course, wherever there's judgements going on, there's got to be lawyers. In this case, a mystical "defense attorney to the dead." (Actually, one who defends the usually guilty living person against the vengeance of the dead.) A rather amusing conflict, carried out in full dramatic style.

The problem is, there wasn't really enough to become involved with the characters; not enough time to "flesh them out." And even though it's tough to tell a complete story in so short a time (a half hour I think?), it didn't have to seem so jerky and uncoordinated.

Overall: a pleasant diversion, an interesting concept, and a bit of fun in the execution. But not one to go out of your way to see.
