The first anime I saw from a rented video, not fan-subtitled or dubbed for TV. Very visually interesting.
Well, there's lots of gratuitious nudity. Not exactly surprising given the target audience: those who like anime with big guns and cyborgs. And, given the few things I've seen on the internet about the manga series, the movie's tame in comparison.
But what really caught my attention was the fine detail in so many things, like the reflections in the rain, how every raindrop was drawn in the puddles, and reflections off the windows of a turning bus, and the fluidity of motion of so many action sequences. Add to that a healthy dose of interesting technology, and it can count me as a fan.
The heroine cyborg leaping nude off of a very tall building, becoming invisible, and landing, well, that's really a cool way to start a movie. Overdone, perhaps. At least this movie does end up demonstrating a mind and a soul, and isn't purely eye candy.
